Some say the need to look pretty is vain.
Maybe those who glance in every reflective surface they pass by are infatuated by their own faces. And asking their friends how they look – constantly – might border on a control issue. Obsession, even.
Being the gal who isn’t afraid to whip out their Glossier mirror and fix my face in class, I can safely say that caring about how you look isn’t a bad thing. In fact, it’s a wonderful thing. It means you care about yourself enough to make sure you feel secure and confident to face the world (maybe with a full face on!) each day.
It’s not even how you look, it’s how looking a certain way makes you FEEL.
I am a minimal makeup lover myself, and I know that this particular style makes me feel glowy, calm and ethereal.
And the times that I do go full glam is nothing short of sheer exhilaration.
This so-called “obsessing” over yourself is really just another form of self-love. This is a way of caring for you AND your body. And that reminds me of 2019’s buzzword: wellness! Makeup and skincare routines can lead to a healthy mind just as any other ritual could.
It’s okay to splurge on yourself once in a while (like that 24K gold-infused lip balm from Tatcha that you just CAN’T not have in your makeup bag.) This ties into the whole idea of treating yo’SELF.
So, is self-obsession a bad thing?
It’s being able to care for both your outsides AND your insides— at the same time.
